Paper Description

Edit Paper Description Content

This 30-point paper is a required paper for the MCouns degree. The paper and its co-requisite COUNS542 depend upon you bringing forward and putting to work your learnings from the first level papers.

The paper provides a structure to support the development of your practice in order that you build a firm foundation for ongoing effective and ethical professional practice as a counsellor in the wider community. While COUNS542 focuses on your work in placement settings, opportunities for learning and reflection supported by your peers in on-campus classes are the focus for COUNS545. The paper depends upon student practice, and upon student reflection on practice, in class, in supervision, and in professional practice contexts. The paper’s activities are focused on the development of narrative practice and on well-theorised accounts of that practice.

Paper Structure

Edit Paper Structure Content
In providing a transition into professional practice, this course requires you to bring forward your work amongst your peers so that you bring to your own learning the kind of collaborative stance that narrative counselling approaches invite. You will present your own practice, consult about your practice, support your peers in their practice presentations and consultations, and simultaneously engage with ongoing opportunities to develop and enhance your narrative practice and your understandings of practice principles. Moving on from first-level papers, you will bring the professional material that provides the focus for learning, while staff will provide structure and support.
